It’s a perfect detour off Route 1 — especially if you’re headed to or from Glymur Waterfall, which hides at the end of the fjord.

During World War II, Hvalfjörður served as a strategic naval base for the British and American forces. Some remnants still linger, quietly tucked into the landscape — blending history with the wild.
Its name, “Whale Fjord,” comes from the large number of whales once seen here, and while sightings are rare today, the fjord still carries the calm, powerful energy of these ancient creatures.
