Overview

Embark on an unforgettable glacier hike across Vatnajökull, followed by a photoshoot at Diamond Beach and Glacier Lagoon. Then, hop on a Zodiac boat tour to glide past massive icebergs. A full-day adventure packed with Iceland’s most stunning sights!

Note that the order of the tour depends on the availability/location of the Zodiac Boat Tour. We can switch the glacier hike in the afternoon.

At the end of your tour, we will edit your photos and you will get a photo package within 14 days via a downloadable drive as the perfect souvenir to remember your epic adventure by!

Meeting Point

Your adventure begins at the Glacier Lagoon parking lot in Vatnajökull National Park. The official address is: Í Hornafirði, Jökulsárlón, Glacier Lagoon, 781 Höfn

Alternatively, you can type "Ice Pic Journeys" into Google Maps for accurate directions. This location is about a 5-hour drive from Reykjavík, so we highly recommend staying at an accommodation nearby.

Please arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled tour to use the restrooms, as there will be none at the glacier. Your guide will be waiting across from the restrooms in the bus parking lot, next to our 4×4 vehicle marked with the Ice Pic Journeys logo.

4-Hour Glacier Hike

Off-Road Drive to Vatnajökull Glacier
Hop into one of our 4×4 vehicles for an adventurous drive toward Vatnajökull Glacier. After 10 minutes, we’ll turn onto an F-Road, making a rugged journey across an ancient glacial plain. The drive takes approximately 30 minutes, during which your guide will share fascinating stories about the region’s history and geology.

Hike to the Glacier
Upon arrival at the glacier parking lot, your guide will provide you with essential gear, including:

✔️ Helmet with a Headlamp
✔️ Hiking Boots (if rented)

We’ll then embark on a 30-minute scenic hike to the glacier's edge. The terrain is mostly flat with slight rocky sections, making it accessible for most fitness levels. Our pace will always match the comfort of our guests.

Exploring the Glacier
Once on the ice, you’ll get a feel for walking with crampons as we ascend Breiðamerkurjökull Glacier. Your guide will lead you through stunning crystal-blue ice formations, deep moulins, and other mesmerizing glacial features. The surreal landscape will make you feel as though you've stepped onto another planet.

1-Hour Photoshoot at Diamond Beach & Glacier Lagoon

After the glacier hike, we’ll take you to Diamond Beach, where icebergs wash ashore in a spectacular display of nature. This is the perfect place for stunning professional photos—whether solo, with friends, or family.

Next, we’ll visit Fjallsárlón or Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon, where massive icebergs drift peacefully in the blue waters. Your guide will capture breathtaking images of you against this iconic Icelandic backdrop.

1-Hour 30 Public Zodiac Boat Tour

Board a Zodiac boat for an unforgettable ride through Fjallsárlón or Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon. Glide past floating icebergs and get up close to the majestic Vatnajökull Glacier. If you're lucky, you may even spot seals lounging on the ice!

Return to Glacier Lagoon

After an action-packed day, we’ll drive you back to the Glacier Lagoon parking lot where you’ll say farewell to your guide and leave with incredible memories of Iceland’s glacial wonders.

Please Note

This tour involves roughly 2 hours of total hiking. The first half of the terrain is very flat yet rocky and is relatively easy for a person of average fitness. The second half is hiking on the glacier which goes up a gradual incline for about 20 minutes. The overall hike is rated as easy with some areas of moderate exercise.
This Bespoke Experience can be upgradable/add on to 6 hour Ice Climbing with glacier hike (so 10 hours instead) for additional 150,000 ISK for 1-4 PAX

 Verified Julian and our private tour were incredible! Truly the most incredible experience! Julian was our guide and photographer for the all day glacier hike, diamond beach, and lagoon tour. He truly made the experience for us! His knowledge, photography skills and overall demeanor were unmatched! In addition he made us feel extremely safe during the glacier hike. We were so lucky to be the only 2 people on the glacier hike, diamond beach, and glacier lagoon because we got his full attention! He’s not only incredibly knowledgeable, but he made the whole day really comfortable and honestly the best guided tour I’ve gone on. I’ve been to a lot of countries and done many tours and I can definitely say it was my fav! Jaw dropping scenery at every turn, great pictures, and a ton of laughs as well.  Verified Ask for Krzysztof! Wonderful tour! We had originally booked the zip line but they called me a few days prior to let me know the zip line would not be operating this week due to something about the national park. We changed the tour to the early bird ice cave tour instead and we were so happy with it. The ice cave was neat and beautiful, even though it’s nearing the end of the season when it can often be dirty and not as nice. Krzysztof was AMAZING! He was so upbeat and excited to show us the cave, and he was very helpful when it came to posing/choosing photo spots. We could not have had a better experience with another guide.  Verified Great cave and glacier hike with small group sizes! Our guide, Julien, was excellent. After a short 4x4 ride to the starting spot, he took us along the glacier to a bowl that we climbed into. The scenery was amazing. We went into a few caves. Had a great time!

There was 4 of us on the tour, plus our guide, Claudia, who was a true expert! We managed to avoid the crowds, saw everything we wanted to, and even hiked further than the typical tour! Claudia was extremely knowledgeable, engaging and interesting! 10:10!! Highly recommend.
