Zipline Adventure on Sólheimajökull

Embark on an unforgettable journey of discovery and excitement on Sólheimajökull Glacier, where you will explore a newly discovered ice cave and experience the thrill of a zip line across the glacial landscape. Your adventure begins with a guided hike onto the glacier, where your crampons will grip the ice beneath your feet and each step will reveal the raw, untamed beauty of Iceland’s icy wilderness. As you walk, your expert guide will introduce you to the fascinating geology of the glacier and point out unique formations such as moulins and deep glacial crevasses.

After exploring the glacier, the adventure continues as you head toward the zip line. Strapped into your harness, you’ll soar through the sky, gliding over the glacier and taking in breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. For those who prefer, ’No-fly’ tickets allow you to remain on the glacier and enjoy the full tour experience while watching your family or friends take the zip line.

This adventure is suitable for nature lovers, thrill-seekers, and anyone looking for a truly unique experience in Iceland. Our experienced guides provide all necessary equipment, safety instructions, and ensure every participant has an unforgettable journey.

Additional Details:

Activity accommodates up to 12 participants at a time, with a 1:6 guide-to-guest ratio. Larger groups are rotated to ensure everyone gets a turn on the zip line.
Optional Pickup/Drop-off from Reykjavik is available for an additional 175,000 ISK per group (max 6 pax), which automatically makes it a private tour. This option appears at checkout when available.
Please wear comfortable clothing and sturdy shoes, and be prepared to be amazed by the spectacular natural beauty of Iceland’s glaciers.

Itinerary

Hike to the Glacier

Once you arrive at the glacier parking lot, your guide will begin handing out your gear for the tour. This includes crampons, a harness, a helmet with a headlamp, and hiking boots if you rent them. Once everyone has their gear, you will take a 40-minute hike to the edge of the glacier. The hike is relatively easy for most and will have you walking on moderate elevation, yet slightly rocky ground the entire way. We will always go at the pace of our guests so you can take your time and enjoy the walk as your guide leads the way.

Glacier Hike to the Zip Line

Next, you will put your crampons into the ice and make your way onto Sólheimajökull Glacier. Hiking on the ice is a unique feeling and may take some getting used to but by the end of the tour, you won’t want to take your crampons off! As you hear the crunch below you, you will march forward and follow your guide up the glacier toward the direction of the moulin where you will jump on the zip line. Throughout this, your guide will show you different formations on the glacier known as moulins or deep glacial holes. All while admiring the barren landscape around you, you will feel like you are in a different world.

After making your epic jumps on the zip line, you will head back up the slope and off the glacier knowing that you are one of the few who got to experience something so special here in Iceland.

Return to the Sólheimajokull Car Park

You will finish the tour with a hike back to the glacier parking lot and a 30-minute drive back to the Glacier Lagoon where you will say goodbye to your guide and have memories of an amazing day inside of Katla GeoPark.

Please Note

This Glacier Zip Line + Hike involves roughly 2 hours of total hiking. The first half of the terrain is very flat yet rocky and is relatively easy for a person of average fitness. The second half is hiking on the glacier which goes up a gradual incline for about 40 minutes. The overall hike is rated as easy with some areas of moderate exercise.
For safety and quality reasons, the zipline requires a minimum of 6 participants to operate. As a result, public group departures do not run daily. We do our best to group participants together on the same departure to ensure the activity can take place.
Private departures, however, are available daily, all year round, and can be scheduled at your convenience.
´No-fly´ Zip Line tickets are for guests who wish to participate in the full tour experience, except go on the Zip Line. ´No-fly´ tickets will have the opportunity to watch their family, loved ones and friends on the Zip Line. They will not have the opportunity to leave the tour early and must stay with the guide.
Photo packages may sometimes take more or less than 14 days to edit. This is just our average turnaround time.

 Verified Julian and our private tour were incredible! Truly the most incredible experience! Julian was our guide and photographer for the all day glacier hike, diamond beach, and lagoon tour. He truly made the experience for us! His knowledge, photography skills and overall demeanor were unmatched! In addition he made us feel extremely safe during the glacier hike. We were so lucky to be the only 2 people on the glacier hike, diamond beach, and glacier lagoon because we got his full attention! He’s not only incredibly knowledgeable, but he made the whole day really comfortable and honestly the best guided tour I’ve gone on. We had originally booked the zip line but they called me a few days prior to let me know the zip line would not be operating this week due to something about the national park. We changed the tour to the early bird ice cave tour instead and we were so happy with it. The ice cave was neat and beautiful, even though it’s nearing the end of the season when it can often be dirty and not as nice. Krzysztof was AMAZING! He was so upbeat and excited to show us the cave, and he was very helpful when it came to posing/choosing photo spots. We could not have had a better experience with another guide.  Verified Great cave and glacier hike with small group sizes! Our guide, Julien, was excellent. After a short 4x4 ride to the starting spot, he took us along the glacier to a bowl that we climbed into. The scenery was amazing. We went into a few caves. Had a great time!

There was 4 of us on the tour, plus our guide, Claudia, who was a true expert! We managed to avoid the crowds, saw everything we wanted to, and even hiked further than the typical tour! Claudia was extremely knowledgeable, engaging and interesting! 10:10!! Highly recommend.
